At Papanui High School we are currently exploring the implications and opportunities that exist with the revised NZ Curriculum and look forward to the developments that lie ahead. We will keep the wider school community informed of these developments as they arise. The revised NZ Curriculum is scheduled to be implemented by 2010. Year 9 and 10 Curriculum
At Years 9 and 10 all students study subjects reflecting the Essential Learning Areas of the national curriculum:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
- The Arts - visual arts, music, drama
- Health and Physical Education
- Technology
Students may also choose from the following options:
Craft, ESOL, French, Graphics, Japanese, Maori/ Maori Performing Arts, Computing, Performing Arts, Outdoor Education, Graphics, Technology (Food, Textiles, Hard Materials, Design, Electronics).
Senior Curriculum
Students in Year 11-13 can choose from a wide variety of courses leading to qualifications in NCEA Level 1, 2 and 3, involving Achievement Standards, Unit Standards and National Certificates.
Conventional subjects include:
Accounting, Art, Art History, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Classical Studies, Computer Studies, Design, Design and Textile Technology, Economics, English, ESOL, French, Food and Nutrition, Geography, Graphics and Design, History, Japanese, Mathematics, Mathematics with Statistics, Mathematics with Calculus, Music, Painting, Photography, Physical Education, Physics, Science, Te Reo Maori, Technology, Text and information management.
Increasingly students are tailoring their courses so that they are better prepared for their next step beyond school. Courses leading towards National Certificate awards include:

Information and Communication Technology
Information & Communication Technology is regarded as an integral part of all subjects. The entire school is networked with fibre optic cabling. With over 200 computers spread throughout the school, students are able to gain immediate access to a wide range of information from a variety of sources and media. Being able to find, use, record and interpret this information is the key to successful learning.
